Henry 111 granted market and fair for both Cheshire Street and High Street
1246
Charter granted for weekly Wednesday market and annual fair to take place on the 7th, 8th and 9th September
1292
Charter granted by Edward v1 to extend existing market
1296
Dispute over a lawsuit results in a fatal fight on the church steps
1459
As part of the 'War of the Roses' between the houses of Lancaster and York the Battle of Blore Heath takes place on 22nd September between Lord Audley (House of Lancaster, 10000 men) and the Earl of Salisbury (House of York, 5000 men)
1539
As part of Henry v111 dissolution of the monasteries Combermere Abbey dissolved . Sir Roland Hill took over the lease and became Lord of Drayton. 10 years later he became the Lord Mayor of London

Civil War broke out between Charles 1 Cavaliers and Oliver Cromwell's Roundheads

Charles 1 passes through Market Drayton on the 21st May
1650
The plague kills 5 people in Market Drayton

The 'Great Fire of Market Drayton' destroys 140 homes on the 13th August

Smallpox kills 15 people in Market Drayton

Robert Clive (aka Clive of India) born at Styche Hall on the 29th September
1774
Market Drayton acquires its first fire engine

The first gingerbread made from the spices brought back by Robert Clive
1824
The Buttercross is built

The Shropshire Union Canal is completed
1872
Smithfield cattle market built to take the animals off the street
1880's
The Great Western Railway builds through Market Drayton as part of the London to Manchester Line. Closed by Beeching 9th September 1963
